Muktinath Temple
Muktinath Temple is an ancient pilgrimage located at an altitude of 3,710 meters (12,172ft.) at the base of Thorong La Pass in the district of Mustang. It holds religious significance for both Hindu and Buddhist communities. This sacred place is an epitome of brotherhood between the two groups.
Hindus call the place Mukti Kshetra, which means ‘the place of salvation’. It is one of the most ancient temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu and his followers- the Vaishnavas in the Himalayan state of Nepal. The shrine is considered one of the eight sacred places referred to as Swayam Vyakta Kshetras (the other seven being Srirangam, Srimushnam, Tirupati, Naimsharanya, Pushkar, and Badrinath). It is one of the 108 holy places for the worship of Lord Vishnu called Divya Desam. It is one of the 51 shakti pithas dedicated to Goddess Sati (Shakti), the wife of Lord Shiva.
